Winter is Over
The groundhog has returned to our backyard,
His friendship with Sammy to re-forge.
She watches him endlessly through the window,
Wants to chase him and chonk him and call his name George.

Near to What I Love
Some poems are destined to become literature,
O Captain, a host of golden daffodils, lovely as a tree.
Sammy, however, keeps my feet on the ground,
Saying my work is the tramp stamp of poetry.

A Kitty Ditty
Breakfast time for kittens,
Breakfast time for kittens,
Sammy says, “MAO!”
She wants to eat now,
But I was going to feed her anyhow.
Breakfast time for kittens,
Get up out of bed.
Sure will miss that pillow,
Where I rest my head.
Breakfast time for kittens,
Cannot make her wait,
Just because,
Those tiny, sharp claws,
Keep me from running late.
Breakfast time for kittens,
Then right back into bed.
If she likes her breakfast,
She’ll sleep right on my head.

Today Years Old
It hit me like a bolt of lightning,
Or a homerun swing from Harley’s bat.
“WHAT” is just an acronym,
For: Well, How About That?

Should I Be Upset?
I wanted to write a poem,
That dredged the depths my soul.
But I’m having such a wonderful day,
That I’m grilling steaks over charcoal.

Why Holidays are Spread Out
Went trick or treating this weekend.
Hit every house on the block.
My friends got corned beef and cabbage,
All I got was a sham-rock.

Kiss me, I’m Here
Digging through the laundry,
For something green like the trees or the lawn,
Because tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day,
And I have to get my Leprech-on!

Settled for Pie
We sometimes desire different things,
And therein the problem lies.
Sammy would rather have tuna,
But I want steak and french fries.
