Weather’s warm, the sky is blue,
Perfect chance to finally unwind.
Alas, I cannot taste the kiss of peace,
For the storm that rages in my mind.
Been through lots of awful stuff,
Everyone has, in their own way.
But now that I have burned quite out,
May I please just fade away?
Watching the snow fall down from above,
While Sammy and I are lying in bed.
Silence is pierced by screaming winds,
And all of the voices inside my head.
Watching the rain fall from the sky,
Yet I’m inside safe, warm and dry.
And while our conditions are far apart,
A dark storm rages within my heart.
As an older man, I sit cold and alone,
My eyes lost in the rage of the storm.
Behind me at the table, my son and his girl,
Whisper, giggle and are warm.
Nose to the grindstone, still lost my job.
Working was life, pushing away all my friends.
Is it time for me to start another chapter,
Or is this where my story finally ends?
Cleaning up the diet, working out every day,
Seems overwhelming, like a Herculean feat.
But I have to get with it so that when I die,
Sammy has something nutritious to eat.
