Whomever wrote, “Like kittens in the snow,”
Must have thought it a fantastic bit.
So I took Sammy outside to play,
My wounds prove she did not like it.
The winter winds are howling,
My soul shivers with the chills.
The situation couldn’t get worse,
Except I’m paying all the bills.
A brisk, chilly breeze,
Makes me truly feel alive.
But I wasn’t really cold,
Until I saw it was -5.
A winter storm has hit us,
Wind, snow, hail and rain.
Curled up on the couch with my kitten,
So you know that I’m feeling no pain.
Winter comes with a dark, icy fury,
First attempt to swallow me whole.
It doesn’t know that it cannot succeed,
For nothing is colder than my soul.
Colder weather is settling in,
Time for the thermostat to crank it.
But the real indicator that we might freeze,
Is the kitten underneath my blanket.
Winter is here and it is cold,
So Sammy gave me some advice.
Stay inside with a cat on my lap,
And I’ll never fall on the ice!
Days grow shorter, the nights grow long,
Howling winds are cold and bitter.
Grab a blanket, stoke the fire!
And curl up with a fuzzy critter.
